The Storrington Site - Storrington
ACD were commissioned by Barratt Southern Counties in 1999 as landscape architects for the project development for this site. ACD carried out the tree and ecological surveys and prepared a management plan for the existing stream and woodland adjacent to the site.

The scheme went to Appeal for non-determination, but was approved by negotiation prior to the Appeal being heard. The site was subsequently developed by Barratt Homes and George Wimpey Southern.

We developed the landscape design on the following principles; a network of footpaths and cycle routes through the site, connecting to strategic routes in the town; the design of open spaces based on areas of retained trees throughout the site, with LEAP play areas in open spaces without mature trees, but accessible within the NPFA guidelines; the improvement of a streamside walk and woodland path, with a Management Plan for the ongoing management of the woodland; the incorporation of a buffer zone of planting around the site, to be controlled by the Management Company; the detailed design of the housing nodes to provide individual character; the use of quality landscape paving materials and soft landscape to provide a varied streetscape and character identity to different part of the site; the design of the balancing pond within the woodland area to provide a permanent shallow water habitat to diversify and improve the ecological value of the site.
