Alma Dettingen
The landscape design concept for this site was developed from the site assessment and responds directly to the form of the development, which takes much from its historical background. The site was formerly a military barracks with central parade ground and formal building layout. This is reflected in the style of the architecture and form of the layout.
Important elements of the design were: Semi-natural elements of the existing landscape have been retained on the frontage, complimented by additional planting indigenous to the area. This frontage provides the visual link to the natural landscape of typical Thames Basin heathland opposite the site.
A network of cycle and pedestrian routes link throughout the site, which were tree-lined wherever possible. The use of high quality landscape paving materials was used to provide a varied streetscape and character, which provide alternative identities for different parts of the site. A simple hierarchy of hard and soft landscape elements which echoed the form of development and style of architecture provided the main form of the landscape.
ACD provided Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment, Tree Survey, Landscape Masterplan, detailed landscape proposals and landscape audit
